Ukrainian Welcome Circle of Scotch Plains, Fanwood and Westfield

UPDATE: Thank you to all the very generous people who have donated to this campaign. We have now met our initial fundraising goal, but additional donations are always welcome. We have rented the family an apartment in Scotch Plains, and the older daughter will be attending school in Scotch Plains. The family will be arriving February 1. Our next task is to outfit the apartment with all the necessities. All items if not new, must be “like new” and in clean, good condition. Please click on the link below to see what we are looking for and to sign up to donate. There are also some slots for move-in assistance.

After Feb. 1, we may be putting up a different sign-up for tasks that may be required after the family arrives. Also, if anyone knows of a used car that might be available to donate or buy for a low price, please reach out to the committee. The committee and family thank you for your continued generosity and support!

All of us have been horrified by devastation occuring in Ukraine.  While we are safe at home,  families have been running to save their lives. Under the auspices of Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, several community members have formed a “Welcome Circle” to sponsor one of these displaced families through HIAS and the U.S. government’s “Uniting For Ukraine” program, through which qualifying Ukrainians can come to the US for up to 2 years. Each Welcome Circle has financial responsibility for the family for six months, and helps them acclimate to the U.S.
