Darcone 5784

Who: 8th – 12th Graders

What: Darcone is CBI’s post Religious School educational experience. These experiences are seen as the next step on the student’s Jewish journey to help them tackle subjects that are relevant to them today and to prepare for what comes next.

Where: Most non-social programming will be taking place at CBI. Any programming not taking place at CBI we will work with families on carpooling/transportation options

Why:

·        As we tell the students when they finish 7th Grade Religious School, we don’t see it as the end of their Jewish education but just another step along the journey. Darcone is the next step. The ability to continue their Jewish learning but in new, different and more age appropriate ways with a little more flexibility then needing to be in the building twice a week.

 ·        CBI will be embarking on the creation of a certification program (official name TBD) which will be given to students who participate in a certain number of Jewish post bnai mtizvah experiences (both at CBI and as part of the greater Jewish world) and Darcone will be an important component needed in receiving the certificate.

When: On average 2 Sundays a month. Unless otherwise stated from 12:30 PM – 2 PM

  Potential Add Ons

-        More Intensive leadership development/skills based training options (such as b’nai mitzvah tutoring, inclusion specialty, etc) may be added to run for a stretch of weeks on Wednesday or Thursday evenings - while not requiring additional payment must be enrolled in Sunday Darcone program and be in the Madrichim program - most likely done November - February during “winter sport” season

 -        Trip Based Options (such as Ellis Island and/or Lower East Side, visit to Holocaust Museum in DC, etc) may be added with additional classroom instruction time - would require additional payment and registration details. Non-enrolled Sunday Darcone students may be eligible to participate at higher cost - most likely done in February - June

-        Anyone enrolled in Darcone will be eligible to enroll in other Union County synagogue teen based programming (Temple Emanu-El, Temple Sholom, TBEMC & Congregation B’nai Israel in Milburn) and those from other synagogues will be eligible to enroll in Darcone at the “member rate” if student has friends from other synagogues they would like to join

 -        Continued encouragement to consider leadership opportunities from our partner organizations including but not limited to GMW Federation, Moving Traditions & International USY
