Developing Hebrew Skills

We are looking for the best options for continuing the Hebrew learning of our students through technology.  Here are a couple of apps that I've found to be good:

1st-3rd grade: Aleph Bet Bullseye

4th-6th: Shalom Hebrew (the first four lessons are free; the rest are $15 for a 15 month license)

Tefillah Centers

The 4th-6th grades have a special focus on tefillot (prayers) :

  • themes and imagery
  • Hebrew key words and ideas
  • Practice pronouncing the Hebrew words correctly
  • Practice chanting the melody

Each prayer serves as a Tefillah Center - a set of activities that can be completed at an appropriate pace for each student.

Students practice by:

  1. Practicing pronunciation of the prayers (without a melody) here
  2. Listening to audio recordings of Cantor Axelrod chanting the melody (links below)

They complete a Tefillah Center by emailing Lev a video recording of them chanting the prayer from the siddur.  Upon demonstration of their abilities they'll receive ClassDojo points and it will be noted as we move towards preparing for Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
