Executive Board and Trustees

Executive Board:

 Steve picture (3) Stephen M. Wiener-President smwiener@comcast.net Steve has been involved at CBI for many years.  Prior to serving as president, Steve was a member of the CBI executive board and the Board of Trustees, and is also past president of the Mens’ Club.  He and his wife Marcia have lived in Scotch Plains for 18 years, and have two sons, Joshua and Jonathan, all of whom are active at CBI.  Marcia is president of the Sisterhood, Joshua has worked as a teacher's aide in the religious school, and Jonathan is a regular at our Shabbat and weekday services.  Steve holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.   For most of his career, he worked on the development of advanced technology, primarily for military applications.  He currently teaches High School Math, Physics, and Computer Science.  In his spare time, he trains in various forms of martial arts.
 Hoberman_Jason Jason Hoberman - Executive Vice President hobermanj@yahoo.com Jason is serving as CBI’s Executive Vice President.  Jason has been active in Jewish organizations his whole life, holding several leadership roles including CBI Trustee, JCC Winter Fundraiser Co-Chair and USY Chapter President.  He lives in Scotch Plains, NJ with his wife Tracey (who is a member of the JCC Board), his daughter Ashley and his son Reid.  Jason is Managing Director & General Counsel of Lyxor Asset Management Inc.
 aaron-kessler-picture-2 Aaron Kessler- Vice President Askessler11@verizon.net Aaron and his wife Susanlisa live in Scotch Plains with their 3 daughters, Maya, Rebecca and Sarina.  The Kessler family moved to the area 4 years ago and immediately got involved in synagogue life.  Aaron and Susanlisa met at their synagogue growing up and want to help provide similar synagogue experiences that they appreciated for their children.  When not at the synagogue, Aaron can be found on the soccer field cheering on his daughters’ club and high school teams. Aaron holds an MBA in Healthcare Administration and is the Chief Operating Officer for a large multi-specialty medical practice in Central and Northern NJ.

 Layne1 (3) Layne Oliff - Vice President Layneo@maturehealth.com Layne lives in Westfield, NJ with his wife Ann. They had lived in Westfield for almost 25 years and have been members of CBI since they moved here from the Chicago area.  He has five children—Michael and Mimi, Carly and Andy, and Brandon—scattered throughout the United States. Layne owns a healthcare marketing company based in Cranford. During his free time he likes to take long walks in the woods, garden and read romance novels.  He hopes one day for world peace.
 Mike-SimonWEFTEC 2012 10 (3) Michael Simon - Assistant Treasurer ms@oemcapital.com Mike is currently CBI Assistant Treasurer.  Mike’s wife Karen is a past-president of CBI and they have been members of CBI for over 15 years.  Daughters Alison and Lisa both attended the CBI religious school and were bat-mitzvah at CBI.  Highlights of both bat-mitzvah ceremonies was having everyone in the family read Torah portions.  Lisa went on to lead the CBI USY Chapter.  Mike is an Investment Banker specializing in mergers & acquisitions.
Ruth Margolin Ruth Margolin - Recording Secretary Margolin5@verizon.net Ruth has lived in Westfield for 29 years, and she and her husband, Michael, have been members of CBI for most of that time.  Their three children went to Solomon Schechter and then CBI Akiba Academy, and they all became USY board members.  Ruth has worked in Jewish education (at Hillel, in teen work, directing a synagogue school, and directing a day school) for many years and has now dived fully into volunteer work.  In her spare time, she creates crossword puzzles that you may have seen in the NY Times.
 Version 2 Steve Garsh -Corresponding Secretary Steveg7@optonline.net  Steve has been a VP on CBI’s Executive Board for the past four years and prior to this served as the Men’s Club President.  He and his wife Barbara have been active members of CBI for 23 years.  They raised their three children in Edison, the younger two attending the CBI religious school up and through the Akiba Academy.  Steve is a retired Resident Agent in Charge with the United States Customs Service and Department of Homeland Security.
